The third season of Arrow starts up next week on Wednesday, October 8th on The CW, and I can’t wait! You can see The CW’s official synopsis of the season premiere, “The Calm” here.
It’s also worth noting that if you were hoping to do an Arrow Netflix binge prior to the premiere, season 2 won’t be available on Netflix until October 8. So if you were hoping to bust through season 2 prior to the season 3 premiere, you’d better take a sick day on the 8th.
Anyway, with season 3 around the corner, I’ve got a few questions from last season that I am SUPER anxious to get cleared up.
***Spoilers ahead, obviously***
1. Question of Vital Importance: Is Olicity going to become canon?!?
I’m really not a “shipper”. If I do “ship” something, I tend to be very boring and ship things that are blatantly, indisputably canon. I ship Ron and Hermoine in Harry Potter. I ship Lily and Marshall in HIMYM. I ship Ross and Rachel in Friends. I ship alternate universe Bobby and Ellen in Supernatural. However, I just can’t seem to help myself when it comes to Felicity Smoak and Oliver Queen. I am definitely an Olicity shipper, and I can’t help myself. If you read the synopsis of “The Calm”, Oliver is going to take Felicity out on a date. So I’m dying to know: is Olicity about to become canon or are they just going to fake us out?
2. What is happening with Malcom and Thea?
We ended season 2 seeing Thea get into the limo of Malcom, her newly-discovered biological father. She’s quite angry with everyone (what else is new?) finding out she was lied to about who her true father was, Roy was lying to her about his crime fighting, and well, Oliver kind of consistently lies to her (but it’s for justice!!!). With John Barrowman becoming a series regular in season 3, it stands to reason that Thea is going to get some training in the dark archery arts from her new dad to right the wrongs done to her. Here’s what Barrowman said about Malcom and Thea in season 3, “He’s got to train her to be a powerhouse, to be a tough bitch. She’s tough now, but she’s got to be tougher.” So what does that mean??? More importantly, does this mean Thea will eventually ‘fail Starling City’?
3. Is Laurel Finally Going to Become the Canary?
In the Green Arrow comics, Laurel Lance is the Canary. So when Sara Lance donned the black leather to help Oliver fight crime in Starling City, fans of the comics were a bit confused. However, show-runners promised us that Laurel would absolutely, definitely be the Canary in the future. Season 2 ended with Sara returning to the League of Assassins with Nyssa, and presenting Laurel with her leather jacket. Are we finally going to see Laurel take up the cause as the Canary, or is this another fake out?
4. Is Deathstroke Coming Back?
There’s been some chatter on the internet that we might see a bit more of Slade Wilson (aka Deathstroke) in season 3. In fact, the actor who plays Slade, Manu Bennet, has even said he’s been asked to return–though there hasn’t been any sort of timeline released for his return. We last saw him locked up in A.R.G.U.S. on Lian Yu, so it isn’t too much of a stretch for him to somehow get out and return to seek revenge from Oliver. However, there are rumors that he might not return to Arrow right away. Instead, we might see him in one of the CW’s spinoffs. So will we see Deathstroke in Starling City again or won’t we? If if he does return, he’s probably not going to be the Big Bad for season 3–so who is???
5. How is the Crossover with The Flash Going to Work?
We’ve seen the teaser (conveniently embedded above just in case you haven’t), and we’ve even seen some pictures of both casts doing a read through together. See?
Still, I’m really curious to see how they are going to blend the two shows together. Really, I’m curious to see what The Flash is like on its own (read the official pilot synopsis here), especially since it seems like the tone of the show will be a bit more lighthearted than Arrow. I think having the two shows crossover will be a really cool thing for the fans; I’m just curious to see how it all plays out, especially if I’m right about Flash being a bit less dark and twisty than Arrow. I’m also really curious to find out how big of a part Flash will play in Oliver’s world, and vice-versa.
What are some of your burning questions for season 3 of Arrow? Let me know in the comments!
Like I said before, Arrow will be airing on The CW on Wednesday, October 8. It’s also worth noting that The CW will be re-airing the premiere of The Flash (its normal time slot is Tuesday before Supernatural) right after Arrow’s season premiere. As always, if you’re not following me on Twitter, be sure to do that so we can live tweet during the show!
