If you are like me, you are among the sad masses of comic book readers, roaming aimlessly about, trying to find some comic book store somewhere that has a copy of Edge of the Spider-Verse #2 in stock–and so far, if you’re like me, you’re failing epically. I missed out on our first introduction of Spider-Gwen in Edge of the Spider-Verse. However, the powers that be at Marvel paid attention to the crazy numbers of fans singing the praises of Spider-Gwen, and decided to give us an official Spider-Gwen series.
On February 25, Spider-Gwen #1 will officially arrive in comic book stores, and Marvel has given us a bit of a sneak peek of the awesomeness to come! Here is what Marvel said about the series in their press release:
She’s Gwen Stacy. She’s smart, tough, and charming. She drums in a punk rock band and goes to high school just like you. Only she can lift a car and has spider powers! Just don’t tell her father, NYPD Police Chief George Stacy! But you knew all that already! What you don’t know is Gwen is back home following the events of Spider-Verse and you won’t believe what she’s got waiting for her!
“It’s a rare character that gets the public outcry that Spider-Gwen got,” says Senior Editor Nick Lowe. “From the sell-out of Gwen’s first appearance to the groundswell on Twitter we’re excited to bring more Spider-Gwen into the world with the creators who started it all!”
Now is your chance to get on board with the breakout character of the year as she makes her bombastic debut into her very own ongoing series. Don’t miss out when Gwen Stacy swings in to comic shops this February in SPIDER-GWEN #1!
Spider-Gwen is written by Jason Latour, and the cover and interior art is by Robbi Rodriguez (variant covers by Adam Hughes, Kris Anka, and Skottie Young). Here’s a peek at Rodriguez’s cover for Spider-Gwen #1:
Here are, in order, the Kris Anka (my personal favorite), Adam Hughes, and Skottie Young variant covers:
I’m so stoked for this series. Marvel has been doing an awesome job of giving us some pretty kick-ass female superheroes, and it looks like Spider-Gwen is going to fit comfortably in the ranks of the new Thor, Kamala Khan’s Ms. Marvel, Princess Leia, and other classics like Captain Marvel, Black Widow, and Spider-Woman. Of course, I don’t know what the future will hold for Spider-Gwen once the Marvel universe collapses into itself and brings forth Battleworld as a part of Secret Wars, but I’m sure Gwen will be able to hold her own once the Marvel universes begin colliding.
Spider-Gwen #1 is going to be hitting comic book stores on February 25. Will you be picking up a copy? What other comics are you obsessed with right now? Let me know in the comments!
