I’m one of those weirdos who can kind of latch on to fictional characters, so this week’s fandom 5 was a bit too easy for me. Really, the only hard part was narrowing down my list to five names, but I managed to do it. Here are five fictional characters that would totally be my BFFs if they were real.
Annie Sawyer, Being Human (UK)
Annie is one of the sweetest characters on television. She’s loving, she makes a hell of a cup of tea, and she’ll do just about anything for the people she loves. I love her dry, British wit paired with her need to be a bit of a mother hen for those she loves. Sure, she’s a ghost, but no one is perfect, amirite?
Sally Malik, Being Human (US)
Speaking of ghosts, Annie’s US counterpart is Sally Malik. Unlike Annie, Sally does not make copious amounts of tea, and she’s not so much of a mother hen (except towards her younger brother). Sally is kind of crass and she’s very sarcastic. She’s also silly and fun. Apart from Sally and Annie being dead, I feel like the three of us could be kind of an awesome trio together.
April Ludgate-Karate-Dwyer, Parks and Rec
If anyone would be cool with being in a group of girls that contained two actual ghosts, it’d be April Ludgate-Karate-Dwyer. I love April’s dark sense of humor, her general distaste of other people (and doing things), paired with her fierce loyalty to the people she loves, her love of dogs and other animals, and her desire to have a job that means something to her. Also, if I ever decide to have kids, I totally want to go to the hospital in zombie makeup just like April.
Jessica Day, New Girl
And now for something completely different, Jessica Day. Jess is happy, joyful, and is basically a friendly glitter bomb. I love that she’s not afraid to be herself–even when that means acting like a stone-cold weirdo–and she is always willing to do whatever she needs to help those she loves. She watches Dirty Dancing on repeat, she listens to Taylor Swift alone when she’s sad, she sings to herself, and she breaks for birds. Actually, Jess might actually be my long-lost, fictional, twin sister…
Daisy and Tim, Spaced
I’m gonna need you to watch this gif in its entirety. I don’t think I can do a better job explaining why I want to be besties with Tim and Daisy than just showing you this gif. Technically Tim and Daisy are two people, but I think they would totally be couple besties to Hubs and me. These two are so goofy, so funny, and so lovable. They both have big, crazy dreams, and are trying to do whatever they can to find a live that brings them happiness and meaning. They also aren’t afraid to get weird, and I’m pretty sure they’d totally be down for hanging out to have a Catan/X-box night.
Of course, during the course of Spaced Tim and Daisy never officially become a couple–even though they make it pretty clear that’s where they are heading. Mercifully, on the Spaced Series DVD, Simon Pegg and Jessica Hynes give us a bit of a peek into where Tim and Daisy end up.
What fictional characters would you like to be besties with? Let me know in the comments! And, as always, be sure to check out my other Fandom 5 posts, and follow the #Fandom5 hashtag to see what everyone else is saying.
