5 Fandom Friday: Fave Fictional Moms

fandom.5.friday

Sunday is Mother’s Day, so to celebrate motherhood in general, this week’s Fandom 5 is all about celebrating those amazing fictional mommas. Here are my five faves:

Morticia Addams

Morticia Addams

Morticia, in both the TV show and the movies, lived an unconventional lifestyle. However, she still was always a great mom and made sure she was there for her kids. She was always welcoming to outsiders, and did what she could to make guests feel welcome. She was unconventional–and she knew it–but it didn’t stop her from being a fabulous person and a fabulous mom.

Helen Parr/Elastigirl

Elastigirl

What’s not to love about Helen Parr? She is both literally and figuratively a superhero, fighting crime as Elastigirl and managing to run a super-family with grace and ease. When her husband gets himself involved with an evil super villain, Helen races in to save the day, save her family, and save the world. Helen is–wait for it–incredible.

Molly Weasley

Molly is probably one of the best moms out there. Not only did she manage to be a loving, supportive mom of her own four children, but she also managed to take Harry under her wing and become the mother he never had. She’s loving, brave, and selfless, and she can knit a mean jumper. Molly rules.

Tina Belcher

Tina Belcher

Tina is a great mom. She’s always supportive of her kids, and she never hesitates to cheer them on–be it in their forays into capoeira, writing erotic friend fiction, or even saving her family and her entire town from a horde of wild turkeys. Alriiiiight.

Clair Huxtable

I grew up watching The Cosby Show. It was one of my absolute favorite shows. While I loved watching the family–and they were definitely the fictional family I would have loved to join–Clair was the character who made the largest impact on me. I wanted to be just like her–a loving wife, a fun and supportive mom, and a rockstar at my job. She also made me the feminist I am today. Watching her interact with Elvin’s antiquated notions of “a man’s job” and “a woman’s job”–in this moment, in particular–had a lasting impact.

Honorable Mention:

Daenerys Targaryen

Daenerys TargaryenBeing the Mother of Dragons totally counts, yo.

Who are some of your favorite fictional mommas? Let me know in the comments! Be sure to check out my other Fandom 5 posts, and follow the #Fandom5 hashtag to see what everyone else is saying!
